Now entering its 36th season, New York City’s quintessential summer jazz festival brings together the world's greatest jazz musicians, under the artistic direction of Grammy Award-winning pianist Bill Charlap, for six one-night-only performances on 92Y’s renowned stage, from Tuesday, July 21 through Thursday, July 30.
Jazz in July comes out swinging with Ann Hampton Callaway and a band of top players – including Lew Tabackin in his first Jazz in July appearance – celebrating Lerner and Loewe. Acclaimed vocalist Veronica Swift returns to Jazz in July on board for an evening of music from icons Dave Brubeck and Gerry Mulligan, and week one closes with a line-up of festival favorites – including Warren Vaché and Harry Allen – paying tribute to hitmaker Harry Warren.
NEA Jazz Master Dee Dee Bridgewater meets the Bill Charlap Trio for the first time to open week two, followed by a new generation of piano giants including Sullivan Fortner, Aaron Diehl, Miki Yamanaka, and Emmet Cohen. Jazz in July 2020 goes out with a powerhouse jazz party featuring six preeminent voices on their instruments, in combinations you won’t hear anywhere else: Joe Lovano with Jon Faddis; Anat Cohen with Lovano; Cohen with John Patitucci, Bill Charlap with Lewis Nash, and more.
“There is no other jazz festival like Jazz in July,” comments Bill Charlap. “Every night features one-night-only, one-of-a-kind performances with stellar casts of world-renowned jazz artists.”
